Giving youth the tools to combat knife crime

Education plays a pivotal role in preventing knife crime by equipping young people with the knowledge, skills and support they need to make positive choices.

StandUp is a knife crime prevention program that aims to educate Queensland’s youth about our knife laws, the consequences of knife carrying and promotes safe reporting strategies.

Delivered by the Queensland Police Service, the StandUp program educates young Queenslanders about making positive choices that influence others to create change, to play a positive role in preventing and reducing knife crime in our communities.

Why this education program matters

Knife crime is a serious issue affecting Queensland communities, and it's crucial to equip young people with the knowledge and skills to understand its risks. The StandUp program teaches students about the consequences of carrying knifes, the emotional and social impacts of violence, and the importance of reporting crime. Through education, we can help to create safer environments in Queensland schools and in our communities.

We are committed to the safety, wellbeing and cultural safety of all children and young people.

We follow Queensland’s Child Safe Standards and the Universal Principle so every child—especially Aboriginal children and Torres Strait Islander children—feels welcome, respected and safe across all program activities.

The StandUp program complements the work of the Jack Beasley Foundation (JBF) and Balin Stewart Foundation (BSF), creating a dual focus and broader reach of knife crime education.
